John Legend - LEGEND
Details
Multiplatinum artist & EGOT winner John Legend announces his highly anticipated 8th studio album, Legend, via Republic Records. The double album features Saweetie, Rick Ross, Muni Long, Jazmine Sullivan, Rapsody, Ledisi, Jhene Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign, and more. Executive-produced by Legend and Ryan Tedder, this vibrant project is suffused with an unapologetic spirit of sensuality and joy, informed by the vulnerability of pain, praise, and healing.
Editors' Note
John Legend is the first African American EGOT winner, netting an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award. A once-in-a-generation talent, Legend's fluent command of vintage gospel and R&B are woven into his stirring piano ballads and socially conscious soul burners. A student at UPenn at age 16, Legend became immersed in the humming Philadelphia Neo-Soul scene that revolved around influential Hip Hop band The Roots. One invitation to play piano on Lauryn Hill's Everything Is Everything turned into others from artists including Talib Kweli, Mary J. Blige, and JAY Z. Legend's 2004 debut, Get Lifted, introduced his sandy croon as one of R&B's most promising new voices. In 2010, he released a fiery, socially conscious collaboration with The Roots, Wake Up!. And followed up the album with the swooning 2013 ballad, All of Me. Legend earned an Emmy-winning performance in Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. Beyond the world of music, Legend's FreeAmerica Foundation is committed to racial justice and ending mass incarceration.
