The PVC woven Black Cartagenas Reina Chair by Sebastian Herkner introduces the culture of Colombian craftspeople. The recyclable PVC is woven around a steel frame with a traditional weaving method to create a neat display. Herkner is inspired by his trips to Colombia, especially to its coastal city Cartagena de Indias. “Fishing pelicans, women selling fruit,” Herkner describes, “cozy restaurants: Cartagena lures you in with its many facets and this collection also plays with perspectives.”

Inspired by Colombian culture, German designer Sebastian Herkner, a long-term collaborator with Ames, visited numerous ateliers that Ames partners with to immerse himself in the unique traditional crafts of Colombia's regions. Herkner’s passion for intriguing materials, color, texture, and applications has earned him numerous industry awards and collaborations with international brands. He naturally gravitates towards sketching and building designs, continuously seeking innovation. In an interview with Dedon, he discusses his work ethic and enjoyment in collaborating with other brands as he would witness the creation unfold behind the scenes of a company. He thus interprets these techniques in his own distinctive way.
