Petra Sandstone Vase
Details
Ideal as a sculptural object for styled shelves or layered into table decor with fresh or dried stems, the Petra Sandstone Vase brings understated beauty to any surface of the home. Made from polished sandstone with a warm pink tone, this vase features a matte finish, and light veining that varies across pieces.
Editors' Note
Named for the pink sandstone city of Petra in Jordan, the color appears in architecture on the African continent as well, in cities such as Marrakech. Though Petra and Marrakech are both referred to as “The Rose City,” Petra’s hue derives from the pink sandstone of its rock-cut architecture, whereas Marrakech owes its color to the red clay of its construction. Jordan is part of the African Diaspora, with its largest Black communities found the Al-Ghor region, as well as smaller communities of Afro-Palestinians and immigrants from various African nations. The history of Africans in the region reaches from Egyptian incorporation of Jordan River settlements circa 1450 BC to the present day, including the nation’s engagement in the lesser known Red Sea slave trade which transported enslaved Africans to the Middle East over water up to the early 20th century.
