This piece is part of our Mason Collection, named for Bryan’s father - Terry A. Mason. A master of form and function, Terry graduated from Dobbins Vocational High School in Philadelphia in the 1950s, and went on to turn his remarkable artistic talents to the craft of a draftsmen. Over a career spanning decades, Terry designed hundreds of projects ranging from whimsical spiral staircases to stunning ornamental gates for multi-million dollar estates. His designs can be spotted at historic homes around Central Park, and in Philadelphia, at palatial estates. Several historical projects required extensive research and often his creative mind to recreate styles that were not well-recorded visually. Terry drew each project by hand — centimeter by centimeter — as he moved across floor-wide sheets of drafting paper, scrutinizing and correcting every measurement, turn and curve. Today, Terry is enjoying a well-earned retirement, along with the love and gratitude of the many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family members near and far who have benefitted from his creativity, hard work and love. His work stands as part of a legacy of Black American architects and designers that stretches back to the very beginnings of America.
