Meaning "minerals" in Swahili, the name Madini is a reference to the sintered stone from which this table is created. A synthetic substrate made entirely from natural minerals, sintered stone boasts many of the same attributes as quartz, porcelain, granite or fully synthetic stone surfaces. However, the material contains no polymer binders as the minerals are heated to a point of fusion, making sintered stone a healthier, more sustainable option. Moreover, as sintered stone surfaces are almost completely non-porous, the material is inherently anti-bacterial, making it a perfect material to use in commercial spaces or health-conscious homes. Historically, the Swahili Coast is known for stone and its distinctive stone architecture. Specifically its use of coral limestone, which was a mainstay of spiritually significant locales such as tombs and mosques, as well as homes, palaces, and whole communities that were reputed for being visible from far off. The houses, which often boasted such features as verandas and inner courtyards, were especially notable for their elaborate, carved stone doors.
