$500.00

Details

Editors' Note

Samuel Dixon was a consummate fine artist and graphic designer. Born April 13, 1956, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Sam spent his childhood in New York and New Jersey, eventually settling in Maryland. As a young man, Sam served honorably in the Army National Guard and in the Army Reserves, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Sam achieved a 28-year career as a Senior Graphic Designer at the Maryland-National Park and Planning Commission and was chiefly responsible for the design of many of the substantive, professional, eye-catching, and impactful urban planning documents and presentations produced by the award-winning agency during his time there. Sam was most proud of his prolific work as an illustrator and painter. It was his greatest passion since he was three years old, painting on the walls and windows during kindergarten. He attended Prince George’s County Community College and University of Maryland where he honed his skills as an artist and graphic designer. As a fine artist and graphic designer, Sam won countless awards and was constantly in motion — creating, curating, and promoting his work. His paintings have graced galleries, restaurants, and private collections throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area and beyond. Dixon passed away on May 14, 2024.
