Wedgwood X Sheila Bridges Picnic Teapot

$340.00

Details

Enjoy pouring tea from this exquisite Wedgwood x Sheila Bridges bone china teapot. This collaboration brings Sheila Bridges' French-inspired designs and appreciation for Black cultural heritage to life. Featuring a picnic scene from the designer’s iconic Harlem Toile de Jouy print, a pastoral scene adorns the teapot and lid. The white base is accented with pops of color and a bold black outline, finished with an unexpected backstamp.

Editors’ Note

Sheila Bridges has long been captivated by the historical narrative of decorative arts. Inspired by traditional pastoral scenes and aristocrats in fanciful clothing, Bridges sought to create similar scenes for people of African descent, noticing the lack of representation in traditional French toile. This led to the creation of Harlem Toile de Jouy, which received such outstanding feedback that the collection expanded to include bedding, glassware, fabric, plates, and umbrellas. Her design has been featured in The Studio Museum in Harlem, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City, and the Musée de la Toile de Jouy in Jouy-en-Josas, France. Collaborating with Wedgwood was particularly meaningful for Bridges, as her mother introduced her to the English company’s design at a young age.
