Sophie Arnould Study II By Kehinde Wiley Signed Limited Edition Print

$25,000.00

Details

Kehinde Wiley's Sophie Arnould Study II, 2016 is part of a limited edition print of only 30 copies. It features a young Black man surrounded by delicate lace birds. The soft femininity of the lace paired with a masculine subject contradicts everyday thoughts about masculinity and femininity. The study reflects Wiley's signature style - painting the aspects and profound emotions of everyday Black individuals in a detailed and classic manner.

Editors' Note

Kehinde Wiley takes individuals from the streets and reimagines classical portraits and sculptures, replacing historical white subjects with contemporary people of color. This approach allows the world to see the humanity that Wiley recognizes as truth. Wiley's strength also shines through in the intricate decorative embellishments of his backgrounds, which are meticulously crafted, giving his subjects a regal presence within his paintings. Wiley received his MFA from Yale in 2001 and has exhibited his work in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Berlin, and Milan. His pieces are part of prestigious collections at the MoMA, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Nasher Museum of Art, and many others. In 2018, Wiley painted Barack Obama’s presidential portrait. Continuing his impactful work, he launched a residency program in Senegal - Black Rock Senegal - to support emerging artists and enhance Africa’s broader art ecosystem.
