The pattern is a celebration of the many dance traditions of the African Diaspora and an homage to dancer, choreographer, and anthropologist, Katherine Dunham. A pioneer in the choreography of dance as well as in the scholarship surrounding it, Dunham balanced her own towering career with the creation of her namesake dance company and groundbreaking research into the ethnography of Black dance culture around the world.
